What is Enlightenment

Have you heard this Zen saying?

Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”

To me, this is a gentle reminder that to be enlightened does not make you somehow less human it simply changes your human experience for the better. How So? Each moment is lived with a greater awareness of your inner and outer experiences. You see yourself and the world around you as if you are viewing a movie. Better able to see experiences as they are and various viewpoints rather than just your own.

It is from this enlightened state that you are a positive example to others and carries a vibration that positively affects you, your immediate surroundings, your community, the world and our planet.

Surrender what you think enlightenment is or should be and let your heart soften and open to a restful, peaceful content space of trust that your spiritual light is shining bright and growing deeply even though your life experience is still filled with human experiences both challenging and non-challenging.
