Online Counseling and Contemplative Practices For Mental Health + Emotional Equilibrium

Kim Roberts, MA

While earning a Master’s degree in Psychology from Naropa University Kim was inspired by the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and discovered Buddhist meditation. She has been a practicing psychotherapist for over 20 years, using the model of Contemplative Psychotherapy, which explores how contemplative practice informs and aids the therapeutic process.

Within a week of discovering dharma, she met her first yoga teacher and mentor, Richard Freeman. She studied intensively with him for over 20 years. In 1997 she first traveled to Mysore, South India, to study with Pattabhi Jois, who eventually gave Kim his authorization to teach Ashtanga yoga. While in India, she also studied intensively with Dr. Shankaranarayana Jois, a prominent Sanskrit scholar and Yoga Acharya.

She has been an enthusiastic Dharma student since 1992, and studies regularly with her primary meditation teachers, including B. Alan Wallace, Tsognyi Rinpoche, and the Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche.

Kim spent spent the better part of 15 years living in South and Southeast Asia leading retreats that offered yoga, sitting meditation, coaching and creative writing as tools for personal growth. She now maintains a private counseling and coaching practice, in person and via Skype.

Kim is the author of Ashtanga Yoga for Beginner’s Mind, a guidebook that lays out the path of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and explores its relationship to shamatha meditation. She is also a regular contributor to Levekunst, Mind Body Green, Elephant Journal and Namaskar, a yoga magazine based in Hong Kong.

Kim currently lives in Crestone, Colorado.
