I have been a master Reiki provider and instructor for over 15 years and over those years have experienced and heard many of the same questions. I wanted to review some of these questions and share the answers with you.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.
What will I have to do during a session?
Each Reiki session is done on a heated infrared amethyst and black tourmaline crystal BioMat to enhance the relaxation process. Wear comfortable clothes as you will be laying down for approximately 30-45 minutes depending. The session starts and ends with verbal guidance and a question and answer opportunity for you.
What will Reiki do for me?
A Reiki session can:
- Remove energy blockages – therefore opening up painful or tight areas of our bodies.
- Assist the body in releasing stress and tension.
- Support and promote the body’s healing abilities.
- Improve sleep.
- Help your immune system because it helps the body to heal.
- Help relieve pain in the body or emotional pain.
How long will the good feelings of Reiki last?
I like to use the analogy of a car when I answer this question. When you take your car for a tune up and alignment it runs smoothly, you drive on a rough gravel road, and it knocks it out of alignment quicker. Your body works the same way. Typically, that peaceful calm feeling can last for several days. How you and your body handle the bumps of life impacts the longevity of Reiki effects.
If you are experiencing lots of discomfort in mind and body, I recommend weekly sessions to assist the body in remembering the feeling of good energy flow, calm, and relaxation.
Can one session cure me or fix my stress?
No, unfortunately like anything it takes the time to train the mind, body, and spirit this new way of living. Your cells hold memory whether it is healthiness and wholeness or tension and trauma. You do not have to experience a severe life event, such as a war veteran, to have cellular trauma.
How does Reiki work?
Life force energy is flowing through us and nourishes all our organs and cells. When that process is disrupted, it causes diminished organ and cell function. This life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when consciously or unconsciously we accept negative thoughts and feelings about ourselves and our experiences. Interrupting the natural harmonious flow of this vital life force energy and begins to create dis-ease in the body. The Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit of additional life force energy to flow through the body assisting the body in clearing and balancing the cells in the body. It especially brings a feeling of heat and warmth to areas that may be most affected. The peaceful calm feeling sometimes is said to feel like a buzzing or natural high. The vital life force energy in a person is raised to a higher vibration because of the clearing and balancing of the cells throughout the body after treatment.
Everyone has emotional and mental trauma on a cellular level thus everyone can benefit from Reiki. In fact, I highly recommend Reiki for regular Self-care as it promotes healthiness and wholeness on a cellular level.
In conclusion, Reiki is beneficial for everyone and anyone. I also encourage my clients to pursue taking Reiki Level I Training as it teaches you the self-healing method and helps to promote a stronger connection to your meditation practice and intuitive Self.
