Today marks the 36th anniversary of my Dads death, for those of you that don't know he died by suicide when I was 12. Today is not a day to mourn his death but a day to remember the life he lived and that there are people who need a hand, who need someone to understand or perhaps just a listening ear. That there are those who struggle in silence each and everyday. Today is a day to remember not just my Dad but all the lives lost to suicide. I am almost certain (unfortunate as it is) that each and everyone of us have been affected by suicide in some way. There are far too many beautiful people who are choosing to leave this world because they don't feel understood, they feel worthless or alone and they don't believe there is another way. I am here to tell you that there is another way! Reach out! There is always someone out there willing to take your hand! Today is also a day to remember the ones left behind, the children, the brothers and sisters, the Moms and Dads. All these people will be affected by the loss for the rest of their lives! Death is death and it is always hard for loved ones...but suicide...suicide makes death take on a whole new meaning. Because it was a choice they made that they no longer wanted to be here.
