I’ve been pondering this today. How can we break free of the neurology/biology/physiology of mental health challenges unless we consciously choose to look for a different understanding, a different way of doing things?
How can we do something different to yesterday if I don’t observe when I have the same reaction/response? When changing my response is hard what can I do to ask for help?
Complex Ptsd is not about going over the past, our body and brain are already soaking in it. Being prepared to slowly but surely build a consciousness around the external and internal responses wanting to derail our day to day life will help.
Most importantly of all, we need to connect with other people. We need to turn against the internal messages of trauma and being willing to begin reaching out to safe people. Those who live their life with values and integrity, those who are compassionate and kind, and those who care deeply.
Then those who remind us to laugh! They are so crucial to recovery as well. Sitting in the midst of trauma brain can be so dark at times. Laughter is good for us as it brings more oxygen into our system and we need it. Hypo and Hypervigilance have restricted our oxygen intake for too long.
If you could choose one thing to transform in your day to day life and help you head towards recovery what would that be? quote2a
