In 2008, when a friend told me I should try Reiki, I really had no idea what it was. I was a member of Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, Calif., and as it happened, they were hosting a Reiki introductory event. It was given by a Reiki Master
Teacher, Eleonore Koury. As she spoke, Reiki filled the room with an incredibly peaceful and nurturing energy. Wow, I had to check this out. I signed up for the next Reiki I and II classes, which were taught together. After the class, I began to offer Reiki to animals at a rescue in the LA area and became a contributor to Reiki News Magazine, an international publication for Reiki practitioners. I went on to take Advanced Reiki Training and in 2012, completed Master training.
That same year, I relocated to Denver, studied Healing Touch for Animals and began volunteering at Cat Care Society, a cage-free shelter in Lakewood, where I offered Reiki to help alleviate stress and heal grief for abandoned cats. I’m also a volunteer at Zuma’s Rescue Ranch, an equine sanctuary and boarding facility in Littleton.
In May 2016, I traveled to England for a Holy Fire II Reiki Advanced and Master training given by the International Center for Reiki Training. Stress and jet lag left me sick the day I arrived, but giving myself Reiki and receiving Reiki from my classmates kept me going throughout the week’s training. It was an amazing experience of nurturing and profound peace. Reiki has changed my life, leading me on a path of healing and spiritual growth that unveils deeper and deeper levels of awareness, compassion, forgiveness and unconditional love.
In 2017, after completing a 36-year career in corporate communications and PR, I launched Reiki River of Peace for people and the animals they love.
