Heather Leughmyer

Compassionate Poetry for Conscience Living

Heather shares her life with her husband, Damian, daughter, Ciera, and several animal companions. She has been veg/vegan for over 20 years and is a passionate advocate and activist for animals. Through her poetry she hopes to inspire others to join her in living a more compassionate and sustainable life. She is the author of If Your Tears Were Human: A Collection of Poetry for Animals in Agriculture, which is available on

Heather is also very involved with animal rescue. She founded Happy Endings Rat Rescue in 2003 and joined forces with EARPS Exotic Animal Rescue in 2005. She has helped rescue and rehome hundreds of rats, mice and other small animals over the years. She believes that every life, no matter how small, is worth saving.
Heather enjoys writing, nature, photography, music, vegan cooking, exercising and spending time with family, friends and animals. She is raising her daughter with compassionate vegan values and hopes that she will carry on her legacy of advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves. She is dedicated to leaving this planet a little more peaceful than she found it.

Heather also does personalized poetry for any occasion. Visit her website for examples of her work: Her personalized plaques, posters, clocks and coasters make wonderful gifts!
